Ping Pong Gallery is pleased to present its first solo exhibition with artist JOSH PODOLL. Podoll presents a new series of large, colorful paintings that express a "vivid awakeness that is more like a lucid dream than a waking perception..."

"The eye sees one type of space and then abruptly moves into another type. As the mind tries to read the new space, there is a little gap or break. This is where the meditation comes in" (Josh Podoll). Podoll, who has been meditating longer than he has been making sculptures and paintings, says that it is hard to imagine arriving at the paintings without meditation. Led by intuition and spirituality, the paintings illuminate the instant where divine, meditative space overlaps with real, life space - "making seen what makes one see, and not what is visible" (Lyotard). For Podoll who is comfortable with the experience of floating in abstraction, the distinction between the experiences of meditating, the act of painting, and the paintings themselves, becomes blurred.
